Changes Made for CNN-NPs

The CNN-NP Board made two new recommendations to the Commission for approval. Based on the information supplied by that Board, the Commissioners approved these important modifications. First, a change in the number of clinical hours required for CNN-NP recertification was approved. One thousand hours over 5 years will be needed; this is to be congruent with the clinical requirements for national nurse practitioner (NP) recertification.

Second, NPs who work as contracted NP preceptors with an accredited college or university for other nephrology nurse practitioner students will be permitted to count those activities towards their continuing education requirements for recertification. Five contact hours will be allowed for 40 hours of work as an official preceptor with a cap at 50 contact hours in this category.
