NNCC Announces New NNCC
President and Commissioners

We are proud to welcome several dedicated individuals as your new NNCC leaders. They will help oversee NNCC’s operations, advance and promote each certification credential, and strive to support you in your certification needs in the future.

NNCC President, 2021-2023: Sandra M. Bodin, MA, RN, CNN

Sandy is a Certified Nephrology Nurse with more than 30 years of nephrology nursing experience. She also has extensive experience in nursing informatics, clinical documentation improvement, and the nephrology biopharmaceutical industry.

Her career has included positions at Miller-Dwan Medical Center and St. Mary’s/Duluth Clinic in Duluth MN; Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles; The Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, and Fresenius Kidney Care. Sandy is editor of Contemporary Nephrology Nursing, 3rd and 4th editions, and past president of the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA).

NNCC President-elect, 2021-2023: Lori Neal, BSN, RN, CNN

Lori has been a Certified Nephrology Nurse for 13 years with more than 19 years in nephrology nursing. She enjoys working as a Clinical Support Specialist for Fresenius Medical Care and has a background in acute therapies, outpatient setting, and management.

Lori is currently working on her Master’s degree in nursing, volunteers with ANNA, and has served as a CNN item writer. She has also served on the NNCC Board of Commissioners.

Katherine A. Cure, BSN, RN, CDN

Kathy has 17 years of chronic dialysis experience working in the outpatient setting at UVA Health in roles that span floor nurse to clinic manager. She currently manages the UVA Altavista Dialysis clinic where she oversees the care of 80 patients and 20 staff members.

In addition to serving on the NNCC Board of Commissioners, Kathy has also been an item writer since 2014 for the NNCC CDN Test Committee.

Timothy Ray, DNP, CNP, CNN-NP

Tim has been a nephrology nurse practitioner for 21 years, working in settings that include private practice, hospital, and long-term care. He has also written textbook chapters on different nephrology topics and recently produced online presentations and podcasts with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Tim has also taught at local nursing schools, and he has been a member and leader of the NNCC CNN-NP test committee since 2010.

Caroline F. Webb, BSN, RN, CNN 

Caroline currently works with IKONA Health, helping to develop an innovative patient education program for CKD and ESRD patients. In the past 7 years, Caroline has been a case manager for CKD and ESRD patients, worked as an outpatient peritoneal dialysis nurse, and worked at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as an acute dialysis RN.

She has also served on the NNCC CNN test committee for the past 4 years. Caroline lives in Greensboro, NC, and is pursuing a Master's in Nursing at Averett University.

COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Extended: What it Means for Your Certification

Xavier Becerra, Secretary of Health and Human Services, has renewed the national public health emergency for COVID-19 for 90 days. The renewal was effective as of April 21, 2021.

What does this mean for you and your certification? If you’re due to certify or recertify, this requirement will be waived during this period. For more details on the waiver and its impact on your dialysis certification, read the NNCC FAQs Regarding CMS Waiver and Certification Credentials.

If you’re an NNCC certified nurse, nurse practitioner, or dialysis technician who has developed a quality improvement project that promotes optimal patient outcomes, consider applying for the NNCC Quality Improvement Award.

 
The winner receives $1,000, an engraved plaque, and national recognition by NNCC. Full details are available here . The deadline to apply is June 15, 2021.
