Your Story...
Meet Frances: A Journey of Strength, Determination, and Certification
Jean Nevarez photoMy name is Frances, and I’m 29 years old. I grew up in Rosenberg, Texas, and moved to Wharton after marrying my husband in 2021. From a young age, I knew I wanted to work in the medical field, but life presented many challenges along the way.

I became a mother at 16 and was also the primary caregiver for my mother, who had type 2 diabetes and later became an amputee. After losing my father in a construction accident when I was three, it was always just the two of us. My mother was my greatest support, and when her health declined, I put my dreams on hold to care for her and my child. I left high school but earned my diploma online and continued to work hard to support my family.

In May 2023, my mother passed away. It was the most difficult loss of my life, but I found peace in knowing I had been there for her every step of the way.

After working various jobs, I hit a low point—but that’s when I found hope. I applied to DaVita and was thrilled to move forward in the hiring process. However, I learned my diploma wasn’t accredited, and I had less than two weeks to earn my GED. I didn’t give up. I studied, tested, and passed—all in time to take the job.

Today, I’m proud to say I’m a certified CCHT. That certification represents so much more than a title—it’s proof of resilience, perseverance, and a lifelong dream fulfilled. I’m incredibly grateful to DaVita for giving me a chance and to NNCC for helping make this milestone possible.

“What does certification mean to you?”
We asked this question to newly certified nephrology nurses, and this response stood out:

“Earning my Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) credential affirms my commitment to excellence in kidney care and reflects the knowledge, skills, and experience I have gained through years of dedicated practice. To me, this certification is more than a title. It represents professional credibility, a responsibility to uphold the highest standards of evidence-based care, and a promise to advocate for patients living with kidney disease. It is both a personal milestone and a professional pledge to keep growing, learning, and making a meaningful difference in nephrology nursing.”

What an inspiring reflection! This nurse’s words beautifully capture the true value of certification—an achievement that goes beyond credentials to embody passion, professionalism, and a deep commitment to patient care.

Ready to take the next step in your nephrology career?
Certification isn’t just a title—it’s a transformative step toward becoming the best version of yourself as a nurse. It shows your dedication to your patients, your profession, and your own growth.
